The history:

In 1995, the clients started camping on the Thousand Islands and they simply fell in love with the breathtaking views and the stunning scenery of that place. In 2011, they bought the first property and built their original cottage, which sits atop a rocky lakeside cleft with a gorgeous view of the St. Laurence River.

A Royal Kitchen

Astro donates Kitchen to aid mental health recovery at The Royal Ottawa

Having celebrated 20 years of business last year, Astro Design Centre wanted to give back to the community. When the opportunity to donate a new kitchen to the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre came up, Astro couldn’t pass it up.  We looked forward to an opportunity to renovate the hospital’s existing tired and dated Occupational Therapy kitchen, where various programs at the hospital come to develop life skills, social skills and vocational skills for both in and out patients, who are referred to as clients. It was our hope that this bright and fun kitchen can become an uplifting and inspiring place for patients to gather, cook, interact and heal.

Kitchen of the Week:Large Island Anchors a Family Hub

Posted by Houzz on Jun 18, 2018 9:53:59 AM

Beautiful woods, metal finishes and antiqued surfaces create an elegant transitional style in this eat-in kitchen

As Featured on Houzz:

These Ottawa homeowners wanted to make their kitchen a hub for hanging out as a family and for entertaining, but their kitchen was closed off from the rest of the house and didn’t feel inviting. “And like most family households, they needed a place for everything,” says designer Nathan Kyle of Astro Design Center. This meant being strategic about every inch of storage. In the course of a complete remodel, he opened the kitchen to the family room and placed a long, hardworking island in the center. Now it’s a welcoming room where everyone loves to spend time.

Before & After Kitchen Remodel: Contemporary Refinement

Posted by Astro Blogger on Apr 3, 2017 11:05:42 AM

The Existing Kitchen

Designer, Dean Large originally met his clients as they came in to the Astro showroom looking to change and update their bathroom.  They were ready for a fresh start and to take on the challenge of remodeling. as oppose to moving out of their secluded home in the woods.  Once the bathroom was complete, it was time to tackle the kitchen.  This kitchen was not necessarily old or worn out, rather a lot more traditional than what the client's taste preference was. Dean's task was to convert this traditional kitchen into a contemporary space that flowed with the rest of the home, yet keeping elements of warmth from the outdoors.

A 'Modern Vintage' Kitchen Renovation

Astro Designer, Dean Large shares his design process with this Before & After Rejuvenation of a Heritage Home in the Glebe.

The Restoration

Ottawa seems as though it is the city of beautiful old homes that nobody wants to care for. The city is going through a period where home owners are opting for the wrecking ball instead of spending the extra time restoring these once stunning homes. This past summer I met a fantastic family who was tired of their suburban home and opted to move into the oh-so coveted Glebe. They sought out a home in need of rejuvenation and took it upon themselves to bring it back to its former glory.

Kitchen of the Week: Elegant Farmhouse

Posted by Guest Blogger on Feb 7, 2015 10:57:00 AM

"A downsizing retired couple realized their lifelong dream of living on the water with this home on the picturesque Rideau River near Ottawa, Ontario. And they wanted the decor in their new home to complement the views they loved so much outside. Because this home is smaller than their last one, they decided to forgo a dining room and put their antique dining room table in the kitchen. Working with interior designer Nathan Kyle, they created a kitchen that not only incorporates the dining room, but also suits the home’s farmhouse-inspired style.

Kitchen Of The Week

Posted by Guest Blogger on Dec 2, 2014 1:56:42 PM

Kitchen of the Week: Hardworking Island in a Timeless Space

"The Kitchen in this 1940s Ottawa cottage was big enough for only one person to use and not suitable for the family now living there. “Before, this kitchen was about the size of a bathroom and was lackluster,” says interior designer Nathan Kyle of Astro Design Centre. Kyle began the design process by learning how the family likes to function in the kitchen when working together, then set up the layout accordingly. He took down a wall and incorporated into the kitchen a side entry hallway that had been a waste of space. He also added luxe elements that suit the family’s love of eclectic and contemporary style. Rich wood finishes and a lively backsplash provide a beautiful backdrop for a display of intricate pieces they brought to Canada from Iran and create a timeless look." - Becky Harris, Houzz
