Tired & Outdated to Masculine & Elegant
Nathan Kyle of Astro Design Centre has recently completed a top-to-bottom kitchen remodel, where he transformed the space from tired and outdated, to masculine and elegant. See the before and after transformation and all the details that went in to making this traditional space so beautiful.
It began when these homeowners came into the showroom and met with our designer, Nathan. They wanted to convert their family room and existing kitchen into an environment that would be much more tailored and elegant to fit their lifestyle of entertaining. They asked that the kitchen be an extension of their formal entertaining space.
With that, Nathan chose to go with a slate grey cabinet finish, paired with a smoked cherry stained island. This helped balance out the south facing sunlight exposure.
The kitchen is adjacent to a formal dining room that is outfitted in similar traditional details, such as the crown molding and wall paneling.
The shape of the butcher block is used as a warmer surface to the island, and clearly separates the eating space from the prep space. It also serves as a concept for the client to use it as a serving station.
The island pendant is sold at Astro Design was purposely larger in scale to balance out the wall sconces that sit symmetrically on either side of the hood fan.
The weight of the darker painted cabinets is broken up with glass cabinetry, seen below in this photo. There is an appliance garage conveniently placed to hide everyday appliances, keeping the main feature wall free of any clutter and making it look more elegant.
Overall, the features in this traditional kitchen were each chosen carefully and the details help make this kitchen stand out and on trend.
